It’s been a magical week in the garden.
One morning we saw two fawns just outside the kitchen window, staring at us through the mist.
The past two days have been bright and warm (relatively speaking!); the daffodils are all flowering, and I picked a few spring flowers to decorate the house.
Beardy spent some time yesterday mulching around the newly-planted fruit trees (having survived the horror of chopping off the top third of the young trees, to help us train them en espalier so they grow along the wire mesh). The woodland was alive with birdsong: chirping, warbling, the loud call of the pheasant, and the rapid-fire knocking of a woodpecker.
Serious was desperate to plant something, anything! So he sowed some radishes and lettuces in the greenhouse.
It won’t be long till I pick some rhubarb, perhaps for a crumble, and I have planted out the wild garlic we brought with us from our last garden. Here’s to more sunny days!
